Larian Studios Announce a Fresh Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The buzz about the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer packed with intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team might be building a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it sparked the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—qualities that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities you can achieve with a distinct build with a specific history of choices.

The series is also notoriously flexible, allowing players to experiment both in story and combat. Most missions can be approached in a variety of manners, frequently in surprising fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can look forward to another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
